A Systematic Control Design Method with Active Damping Control in Voltage Source Converters

This paper proposes a systematic control design method for active damping of grid-connected voltage source converters (VSCs). The proposed considers the conventional cascaded loops and improves them by including additional states feedback-based damping. In such way, all gains are lumped into one gain matrix based on formulation. lumping leads to linear optimization problem, so different techniques can be used calculate gains. work calculates using simple but effective optimal theorem as noteworthy feature. overcome challenges designing multiple loops, evaluating wide time scale dynamics, tuning required parameters. Moreover, direct relationships between parameters system well-known stability performance indicators maximum factor, minimum ratio, efforts identified, providing good physical insight. Finally, structure calculations ensure power converter robustness against uncertainties in grid’s short-circuit ratio (SCR) operating-point conditions. When SCR changes from 10 (strong grid condition) 1 (ultra-weak condition), under maintains margins simultaneously provides fast dynamic response facilitating implementation high-bandwidth phase-locked loop (PLL). strategy was investigated analytically practically conducting eigenvalue analysis, simulations, experiments.
